The Confucius Institute of Rutgers University (CIRU), together with the Feng Yun Go School, hosted a weiqi (a.k.a. go) tournament on Saturday, April 1 at the College Avenue Student Center in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Seventy six players participated, representing a wide spectrum of ages, strengths, and ethnic heritage, girls and boys, men and women. Between rounds, Feng Yun 9p, a professional player from China, reviewed players' games and answered many questions about studying go and getting stronger. Paul Matthews directed, with volunteer help from the Rutgers Go Club and other players and visitors.
Feng Yun signed performance rank certificates for players who won all three of their games: Alan Huang 7d, Amy Su 5d, David Glekel 4d, Andrew McGowan 1k, Ted Lin 2k, Katherine Xie 3k, Seth Liang 5k, Sarah Crites 6k, Micah Murphy 10k, Kaden Li 21k, and John Crossman 25k. Complete tournament data, including all performance ratings and pairings, are available online at Go Tourney Ratings. Also, please see our tournament photo gallery.
Thanks to the CIRU who made arrangements with the College Avenue Student Center to provide a very nice facility with ample space for all activities. All players received a Rutgers University T-shirt.
